An Interview With Amy

The intention of this page is to capture all of our frequently asked questions, to enable you to make an intelligent decision as to whether this work is right for you.

How long have you been doing what you do and how did you get to be an expert in this?

I’ve been training myself for 14 years and doing this work with others since 2016. At 25, in the early days of a corporate career, long hours at a desk, and intensive cycling, meant that aches and pains started to creep in. This felt insane, I was so young! I did the usual thing - started seeing a physio, a chiropractor, looking at insoles and my desk set up. However, none of was a fix for me. Looking at the ‘thing’ was not the solution - instead, I needed a more holistic approach, building full body strength and restoring my natural range of motion.

Without an external solution in place, I set about creating my own - healing myself.

Needless to say, it worked, and I left my corporate career in 2016 to share my method with others. Since then, I’ve helped hundreds of people restore their bodies from modern life and long hours at a desk, to feeling stronger in their 40s and 50s than they did at 30. Some even than they did at 20.

As for me, I’ve achieved a double bodyweight deadlift (lifted more than double my weight off the ground), then went on to lift 140kg just 6 months after giving birth. I had an unassisted home birth, have resolved multiple injuries and was featured by Red Bull to promote healthy lifestyle at work.

Who are your clients exactly?

I work with busy, stressed professionals who struggle to find the time and motivation to exercise consistently by themselves and don’t want to mess about with the latest fad. They know they need to get stronger, but they don’t know where to start. They have regular aches and pains in their back, neck, knees, hips or shoulders that they really don’t want to be having at this stage in their lives.

They often feel tired and sluggish, over-relying on coffee, and they know the desk life isn’t doing them any good.

How are you different from other personal trainers?

I am different because I have done this work since 2016, I’m not a 20-something flash in the pan. I’m highly experienced, trusted by big corporates and household name brands. I’m told my enthusiasm is infectious and my brand of accountability has been described as ‘hardcore and humanised’. I absolutely will push you and I am desperate for you to get the best from yourself, but this is done in a manner of utmost kindness and patience and respect.

What type of personality do you work best with and what is expected of me?

I work best with quiet professionals. Those who are committed day in day out, patient, considerate and consistent. You’ve put yourself and your wellbeing on the back burner for a while now and you know this can’t continue.

My expectations are that you show up to sessions, ready to do the work and absorb the knowledge. Outside of sessions, you’ll need to train for 45-60 minutes 2-3x a week with limited equipment. There is no expectation for you to go to a gym by yourself, it’s very rare that any of my clients do.

For what type of person is this programme NOT going to work?

Please know I’m very selective in who I work with and I cherry-pick my clients, choosing to gently turn away people who aren’t suited for my programmes and won’t get the results for which they would have signed up for. My method won’t work for you if you regularly make excuses for not getting something done, or like to challenge every aspect of a process. You need to be willing to see things differently than you have to date and to challenge yourself, for me to be able to help you to get the results that you want.

I am absolutely here to support you and help you with accountability, but you need to be self-motivated outside of our sessions too. If you ‘just need a kick up the bum’ or you need someone else to make you do what you say you want, my way of working isn’t for you.

If you’re looking for personal training for a couple of sessions here or there, or for someone to visit your home, this also isn’t a fit for me.

How quickly can I expect results?

This depends on where you are when you come to me and how much effort you put into the programme that I give you. Commit and you will see impact within 30 days.

Does this really work?

Yes! I’ve been doing this work with clients since 2016. Head to ‘Success Stories’ to read some examples.

I have a family and a busy life. Although I want to get stronger and rid of aches and pains, I don't have much time to spare. How much time do I need?

Many of my clients have jam-packed schedules and that is often why they work with me. My objective is to help you achieve the best possible results in the lowest possible time investment. It’s not about spending hours in the gym. Consequently, all my effort goes into making my method very efficient. If your schedule is very busy, I imagine you also don’t have time to waste.

Becky Bengey had this concern before she started working with me and now she says: ‘Working with Amy is very accessible and so despite being busy with full time job and a toddler I can still fit in the, and find the time to do the home program. I get excellent results for the time commitment '

We provide the plan and the structure - you follow it, it’s that simple – maximising the return on your time investment.

Where do you train?

I offer a hybrid method of training. The face to face component is based in a 1-2-1 space in a private gym in north Bristol with the rest of the programme being delivered virtually.

I've got a holiday or a work trip coming up - should I wait and get in touch when I get back?

I would be inclined to recommend not. I work with very committed clients and spaces are quickly filled.

The sooner you make contact, the sooner we can create a plan to fit your needs. You’ll find I can recommend things to start making progress with while you’re away also.

I’m worried I’m not fit enough to start working with you, I don’t want to feel embarrassed if I can’t do everything you ask me to do?

I don’t have expectations of you and your performance when you arrive and it’s not my job to pass judgement on where you are. We wouldn’t be working together if you were exactly where you wanted to be in this regard.

In truth, I consider you a smart person for doing this. You will certainly be an expert in many other fields of life and this one you’re choosing to delegate.

How long is a programme?

All new clients work on a 30 day programme to begin with. This is enough for some and others decide they want more.

Do you accept credit cards?

We do, bar AMEX.

Based on everything I’ve read and heard, I know I want to do this. What are my options for getting started with you?

Fantastic. Your first step is to book a consultation call.

What results can I expect?

You can expect to:

  • Get stronger – than you ever have before.

  • Discover why you experience back, neck, knee, shoulder or hip pain and resolve it.

  • Learn to move heavy objects with ease and control and reduce your risk of injury.

  • Improve your flexibility – touch your toes for the first time ever.

  • Feel more confident.

  • Breathe easier.

  • Get great posture – and the presence that comes with it.

  • Feel more alive and energised.

  • Concentrate and focus better.

  • Feel more in control.

  • Build a stronger core.

  • Get leaner, lose the body fat that you want to.

  • Build muscle.

  • Sleep better.

  • Feel less stressed and more calm.

  • Feel more powerful.

  • Improve ‘flat feet’ or flat arches – perhaps even get rid of your orthotics.

*Results vary between clients and are dependent on many factors*
