It’s Not About Getting Fitter, It’s About Changing How Your Body Works
So what does it mean when we say it's not about getting fitter, it's about changing how your body works?
That means as adults, we tend to be fairly good at staying fit and staying relatively healthy.
We might sit at a desk all day but then we go out for a run, bike ride, lunch break walk and we were reasonably good at keeping moving and being fit enough to be able to breathe enough to do the things that we want to do. We tend to be okay at doing that by ourselves, even if sometimes it is a bit of a ball ache and we don't necessarily feel like going for a run after work or what have you.
When we're born, we have this natural inbuilt innate way of moving which works for our body, we know how to pick things up off the floor, bend, squat and kneel and our body has this rhythm that just works but for a multitude of reasons as we get older, work at desks and live a more sedentary life (even though we are doing this running and cycling around our normal life), the modern world doesn't work in sync with our body therefore our body falls out of sync with itself.
This results in stiffness with aches and pains. lacking the flexibility that we feel we ‘should’ have, the idea that we won't be able to touch our toes, wanting to squat down nicely, we want to be able to sit at a desk without being distracted by having backache all day.
All these things not ‘working’ as we want them to, are a sign that our body has fallen out of its natural rhythm that it had from the start. And most of us, if we're blessed with health, from the word go, have this natural rhythm to begin with.
We just lose it through various life choices and just the way the world works - no shame on anybody whatsoever. We're here to help people find that natural rhythm because when you've got that natural rhythm, what that looks and feels like is: having more energy, being more flexible, finishing your working day and feeling like you actually you still want to do stuff rather than just like slump on the sofa, being able to go for a run without niggles, injuries, aches and pains. It also means not being sat at your desk with backache, neck ache, shoulder ache - all of those things are a sign that your body is out of that natural rhythm.
By getting fitter, yes, you're going to get fitter and that's awesome but it isn't going to change any of those things. You can do as much hit or cardio as you like, it is not going to change the way your body moves and the way all your systems and bits communicate with each other. At the moment, they're all speaking a different language and it's just not working.
It’s about getting them all to start communicating in the same language; to start talking the way they used to talk to each other and start taking on the bits of work that they should be taking on and delegating the bits away that they shouldn't be doing.
It's about re-establishing the bodies system of communication so that everything can work because if you're experiencing aches and pains, regular fatigue and most days you feel like you haven't got much energy then something in that isn't working the way it used to.
If that sounds like you, then we should talk.
